Five needle voodoo
I've copied most of this out of my other blog so apoligises if this is old news to you but I thought since this was a knitting blog, it should go in here too.
I've been wittering of for ages about how I wanted to try sock knitting but I've also been looking at this five needle knitting lark and though Oh-My-God. Anyway putting aside my 'Whats wrong with circular needles?' question, last night I decided that I wanted to have a go at 5needle knitting and had been looking through my Stitch and Bitch Nation book and quite liked the look of the crocodile mittens for Jack. HA!! Knitting? Relaxing? Yeah, more like acupuncture when you have five needles all spinning around while you're trying to knit. Lots of swearing and stamping of feet later, I had it though. Here it is to start with.
Haha, I tell a lie. To start with I got all the stitches set out onto their needles then with the spare needle, knitted round, ending up with all stitches on one needle. Oh how I laughed!! M thought it was hilarious. Sooo I went and looked on knittinghelp.com and watched her video. Soon it was all a bit clearer and I managed to do it.
You knit the wrist-band in a circle. It was supposed to be a rib but yeah like I was going to attempt to rib with those needles?! Then you knit the rest of it flat with just two needles.
Here is the finished item on Jacks hand. Its a bit scraty with the sewing up because I was determined to finish it off last night so that I could see if it fitted him this morning. There are mistakes on the knitting anyway so I'm going to have to make another two but just so that you know what I was aiming at.
I'm feeling more confident at having a go at socks now. Its a pain to start with but once the knitting gets longer, it seems easier to knit so maybe five needles aren't too bad. The looks I was getting from M were a picture though......
