I found your invite Nic - thank you so much...don't know what to say - my knitting is in novice mode....look...here is a close up of my dropped stitches! 
I'm learning slowly - and would appreciate any guidance from you pros....

YAY, welcome. :o) Its looking good to me. The first thing I knitted was a scarf for Jack and he loves it. In fact we had trauma when we moved and he lost his hat and scarf. So Oscar will love his scarf.
I got stuck loads of times (and still do) but I find www.knittinghelp.com really good because it has videos on it so you can see what you are supposed to be doing and also a book I got out of the library by Debbie Bliss called Baby knits for beginners. Those, lots of swearing and I generally get it cracked.
